Jamestown BPU Launches Community Fiber Network
Jamestown BPU Ceremony Celebrating Fiber Network Initiative.
State and local leaders gathered in Jamestown, New York, to celebrate a major milestone in expanding broadband access: the ribbon cutting for the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Community Fiber Project on October 21, 2025.
The event marked the official launch of a community-owned, open-access fiber network designed to bring high-speed, affordable internet to residents and businesses. Representatives from New York’s ConnectALL Initiative, local government officials, and project partners attended, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
The project represents a significant investment in digital infrastructure, supported in part by a nearly $30 million grant through the state’s ConnectALL program. Built as an open-access network, the system allows multiple internet service providers to operate on the same infrastructure, giving customers more choice and encouraging competition.
Notably, Fiberspark was highlighted as one of the key early service providers on the network, playing an important role in delivering high-speed connectivity and expanding access in underserved areas. Alongside other providers, Fiberspark’s participation underscores the project’s mission to foster innovation and improve service quality through a shared infrastructure model.
Speakers at the ceremony emphasized the long-term impact of the fiber project on the community. Local leaders praised the years of planning, coordination, and labor that brought the initiative to life, while also noting that construction and expansion would continue into 2026. Once complete, the network is expected to serve more than 14,000 homes and businesses, offering reliable, high-speed internet at competitive rates.
The ribbon cutting symbolized more than just a project milestone, it marked a forward-looking commitment to bridging the digital divide, with partners like Fiberspark helping to shape a more connected and technologically resilient future.
